I'm not listening, I'm just looking at a rufus. Does he know what's going to happen? The whole day passes in a blur. The next morning, my mother shook me awake. I reluctantly wake up and get ready. My parents and I sat in the car while my father crossed the highway. I had Rufus on my lap, stroking his belly and holding his paw all the way to the vet. A tear falls down my face. Rufus goes to my face, licks it and moans. I smile. When we arrive, a plump lady is standing in the office, typing vigorously on a keyboard. She looks up smiling happily and drags her long bright pink nails across the top of her oversized head and says in a squeaky tone "Welcome to Doctor Pills office, how can I help you" My mother says "uh, we're here to see Doctor Pills" "She'll be here any minute, uh.." "Suzan" "Yes, Suzan" My mother and I sit down in a big red chair. I turn around while. as my mother flips through a selection of fashion magazines. My mother then turns around and says, “Everything will be fine, it’s the right thing to do.” I’ve heard it a million times since yesterday. But I can't help but think that's it. A tall woman of color enters smiling, we follow her into a small one.
