It is this particular framework that affects the author himself, George Orwell. Everything about the city of Marrakech, from the ground Orwell walks on to the buildings that tower above it, has all led up to its ultimate revelation. The society he lives in is anything but good. Orwell's Marrakech is ultimately a morality play, in which Orwell himself faces a battle with his own conscience. In Marrakech, the way people act and are treated is strange. Most striking is the strange invisibility of people. An example of this are the women who walked past Orwell every day without him noticing. All Orwell noticed was the firewood they were carrying. He realizes that he felt sorry for the donkeys who were carrying too much before he noticed the old women. He went on to say: "Anyone can miss the donkey with its skinned back, but it is usually due to some sort of accident that even old women are noticed under its burden.". ...
