  • Essay / The Legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach - 1139

Johann Sebastian Bach has been said many times to be one of the most influential composers of all time. I have to completely agree with this statement. The opinion on who has been more influential differs from person to person because each individual has their own opinions and things that influence them. For me, Bach was one of the composers who seemed to have a big influence on my life and the time I was taking piano lessons. As a former piano student, I have seen, heard and played many pieces and compositions by Bach. Many of these were of course modified to achieve an easier level of expertise and skill than Bach had intended in composition. Even so, I found many of his pieces stimulating and each of them taught new skills. Whether the composition seemed to focus on rhythm, melody, scales, or any other technique, I was always challenged and seemed to become a better player after mastering each particular composition. Most of the piano lesson books I used during my lessons contained Bach compositions and works because they are very beneficial to the student. There are also many books or series of books that are all compositions by Bach; this shows how important his works are for pianists wishing to improve their skills. Throughout this semester, I was able to appreciate and appreciate more listening to Bach's different compositions. Each has been produced with such skill, precision and attention to detail that there is nothing and no other composer that seems to come even close to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. His pieces are far above anything I have heard so far in my life. I think the number of composers after Bach's time who were influenced and based their own compositions... middle of paper ...... to master this style just like him. Although he never wrote operas or other dramatic forms of music, he perfected styles that no other could achieve. Countless composers have written wonderful operas, but the number of fugues needed to write them is far fewer. If operas were as complex as fugues, more composers could have written them. Handel wrote many complex pieces and many of his works can be compared to those of Bach. However, Handel was never able to compose a fugue and no other style can compete with them. Bach's abilities to compose fugues are almost supernatural and it is this ability to master one of the most complex forms of music of the Baroque period. Many great composers have composed great musical pieces throughout the history of music, but none could ignore that of Johann Sebastian Bach..
