    John Irving's novel, The World According to Garp, tells the story of TS Garp (Garp) and his mother Jenny Fields. Jenny Fields was the daughter of wealthy parents from Dog Heads Harbor, New Hampshire. Jenny was a woman who hated doing things the conventional way. Due to the way Jenny raised Garp and the unconventional things she did in society, Jenny was ultimately responsible for Garp's death. Jenny Fields was expected to go to college like every other wealthy young woman of the time. Wellesley was the college that was suggested by his brothers because "Wellesley women were not viewed vaguely and were considered to have high marriage potential" (Irving 3). Jenny went to Wellesley reluctantly, but she felt like she was being exposed for marriage and for being the perfect wife and mother. This was something Jenny Fields couldn't understand. Because Jenny hated the idea of ​​being exposed, she switched from an English degree to a nursing degree. She felt like becoming a nurse was something she could do right away. Thanks to the soldiers and men she met at the hospital, she came to the conclusion that by compromising with them, they might be happy to see you again. Jenny eventually decided that men were “full of the conceit of college boys and…ceased to have anything to do with men” (Irving 4). Since Jenny became a nurse, she's heard a lot of jokes about male genitalia. . She found this revolting as she learned about all the things genitals could create, most of which disgusted her.
