James Broadnax. Your Honor, as you and everyone in the courtroom today will recall, the defendant was charged with the murder of two people in their 20s. For the purposes of the record, sir, let the record show that the two victims' names are Mr. Stephen Swan and Mr. Matthew Butler. Let the record also indicate that the defendant's name is Mr. James Broadmax. While the jury was deliberating the best punishment for the crime committed by the defendant, we reviewed his record and the jury found no evidence to judge him in a negative light. We also heard testimony that he was involved in a conflict with a former inmate. We further learned that it has not always been easy to compel the accused to comply with the orders of court officials.
