Essay / The Cheesecake Factory - 1100
The name says it all, Cheesecake Factory. Who wouldn't want to go to a place where the main product is cheesecake? When we think of a factory, we think of a large room filled with lots of equipment and employees all with very specific tasks. The Cheesecakefactory is no different. The restaurant is designed to operate like a factory using classic organizational approaches. The Cheesecake Factory is a very successful and constantly growing business. Everything about them is vast, from the portions to the number of employees who work for them. The reason for their success is due to their high expectations of workers, their managerial organization aimed at ensuring customer satisfaction, and their ability to effectively combine several aspects of organizational structure with technology. Although the Cheesecake Factory may seem to run like a well-oiled machine, there are still areas for improvement when it comes to communication. The Cheesecake Factory has very high expectations of its workers. They spend a lot of time and money on their training. “The company spends an average of $2,000 per hourly worker each year on training. Everyone within the organization benefits from training and development initiatives. Servers benefit from two weeks of on-the-job training. Candidates vying for a management position receive 12-week refresher courses” (Ruiz2006). Even dishwashers are included in the training initiatives. They want standardization, but not to the point where employees are easily replaceable. They therefore create an environment in which employees want to keep their jobs. They are able to pay their employees top dollar because they don't spend money constantly replacing and training new employees. , Alan J.
