  • Essay / Rationale for Physician-Assisted Suicide - 794

Euthanasia, also known as physician-assisted suicide, is the practice of ending life to relieve pain or incurable illness with the help from a doctor. The question of whether or not euthanasia is justified is a very serious moral question. The practice of physician-assisted suicide may be optional. As long as it is a personal decision of the person, euthanasia is justified in certain cases. Every person should have the right to end their life, along with other legal rights. As long as it is a personal decision of the individual and the pain they are experiencing is incurable, euthanasia can be justified. The opposition might oppose euthanasia because the practice of euthanasia may go against God's will. Since major religions like Christianity, Islam and Judaism prohibit suicide, they consider euthanasia to be a sinful act. Their view is that the person or doctor who helps someone die is interfering with God. If I agree with this, then a doctor saving a dying patient is also interfering with God and disrupting the cycle of life. Additionally, physician-assisted suicide is only implemented if the patient decides to do so. You cannot apply your religious opinions to others. Additionally, people opposed to euthanasia based on their religious beliefs should also take into consideration that many people are atheists and agnostics. People cannot oppose euthanasia or any other issue based solely on religious views. Most importantly, the government has no say in a person's religion and therefore has no right to determine their faith or even if they have a faith at all. Laws prohibiting euthanasia are not based on any religious beliefs. Opponents of euthanasia argue that most people who decide to be euthanized are in the middle of paper ......y dead. People have the right to choose the type of medical treatment they wish to receive. They also have the right to accept or refuse it. Therefore, everyone should have the freedom and power to control their own destiny. Euthanasia is illegal and considered a crime, but abortion is legal and acceptable to most people, although the two situations are almost similar. Euthanasia is only carried out if the person wishes it, while in the case of abortion, the person's life is ended before they even come back to life. Furthermore, euthanasia of animals is legal and justified even though animals cannot speak for themselves and express their desire to live or not while human beings can. Animal euthanasia is considered humane, while euthanasia of a human is considered a crime. Like animal euthanasia and abortion, physician-assisted suicide is justified in some cases..
