  • Essay / Misconceptions About “Tech Addicts”…

I opened my eyes to today’s media on my couch. I read the headline of the news. I was shocked to find that today's media perpetuates and glorifies the unrealistic reality of today's generation. Over twenty years, the history of media and dominant cultural ideals has always shaped the public's perception of today's ideal millennial generation. Additionally, the behaviors of today's millennials have been determined by various factors, including media and magazines. The media has portrayed today’s millennials as being addicted to technology. This can't be the truth! Nowadays, teenagers study hard as they spend more time studying, which leaves them little time for household chores, games and socializing. If someone asks you, don't teenagers do much beyond text messaging, chatting, watching TV, and gaming? What will your answer be? It will obviously be hell, no. You tell them they just made a mistake called “popular opinion.” You think we teenagers aren't capable of living in a technology-free environment, just because the media portrays us doesn't mean we can't function without an iPod strapped to our ears or a vibrating cell phone in our pockets. So readers, I strongly recommend that you don't believe everything the media throws at you and absorb it like a sponge. Trust me as I have many personal experiences on this. In a recent study in 2009, Dr. Mann conducted an experiment on ten adolescents to see how much time adolescents spend on electronic media such as television and computers. The results showed that adolescents spend seven hours a day in front of televisions and computers. Ontario researchers are familiar with this growing trend and will likely take a ...... middle of paper ...... if they have somehow managed to be able to be recognized by the public like Jessica Watson. Additionally, a trend I noticed while writing this column is that the current generation is always criticized by previous ones in various media forms. I believe that we teenagers can live in harmony with the previous generation if we had the freedom to tell our side of the story. After reading all types of newspapers about teenagers, it led me to conclude that today's teenagers don't do this. have the opportunity to express their point of view to the public. This is because there are not enough articles on the performance of young people as a whole. However, there are some bad stories regarding teenagers as a whole. This can't happen. It seems that the media is not allowing the public to see the good side of the teenagers' story..
