Bantu ethnic groups in Africa consist of 300 to 600 different groups who speak Bantu languages. They inhabit the region south of the Sahara Desert, from central Africa to southern Africa. The Bantu language group has 650 languages with different dialects of the language within the group and is a major branch of the Niger-Congo language family. Since the Bantus are made up of all different groups, they are divided into AS areas and divided into decades (A10, A20 groups, etc.) and this system known as the Guthrie system has become the standard for identifying languages Bantu. The Bantus originated in West Africa around 4,000 years ago. They spread out in waves and slowly began to disperse eastward.
