There are two medical TV series that stand out from most others. Both of these shows focus on their personal lives rather than their professional lives. Bill Lawrence's Scrubs TV series and Shonda Rhime's Grays Anatomy TV series share the theme of competition, Grays Anatomy is better because of Shonda Rhime's use of character, point of view, and conflict. The main character of Scrubs is John Dorian or JD played by Zach Braff. The main character of Grays Anatomy is Meredith Gray played by Ellen Pompeo. They both begin the series as interns trying to balance their personal lives with the demands of their medical training. Meredith is intelligent, hardworking, outspoken, and easily distracted. Shonda Rhime, the creator of Meredith Grey, defined her like this: “Meredith is the girl who got her hands on a bomb in a body cavity.
