In this story, it's summer vacation for Connie. She spends her days at home, avoiding her mother, daydreaming about boys she's met and looking in mirrors every chance she gets. Her mother always scolded her about it: “Stop looking at yourself. Who are you? Do you think you are so pretty? (p. 312). But Connie knew she was pretty. She had blue eyes and long, dark blonde hair. She wore part of it raised on her head and inflated and she let the rest fall down her back. Connie believed her mother was still on her case because her mother was no longer pretty. When Connie wasn't home, she spent several nights a week at the town mall. Her friend's father drops her and her friend off so they can walk around the shops or even go see a movie. The girls wore shorts when they went out. I think it's a good representation of how times have changed and what is now socially acceptable for girls. Just a few
