    A toxic manager is one who helps those who are struggling with organizational change deal with the various nuisances associated with change (Palmer, Dunford and Akin, 2009). Change that is not well communicated is abrupt and untimely or whose unrealistic expectations create toxic feelings among employees that must be managed. A characteristic of a toxic manipulator is a capacity for empathy and a willingness to act in an attempt to alleviate the pain and suffering of others caused by organizational change (Palmer et al., 2009). In the selected article, Savannah was a project manager responsible for implementing a new program to change the existing promotion system that was based on seniority rather than performance (Frost, 2006). Although she had support from upper management, other managers were unhappy with the change and began attacking the efforts of Savannah and her team (Frost, 2006).
