Introduction/DiscussionThe Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) partner in 2008 to launch a Foundation initiative Robert Wood Johnson over two years in response to the need to transform the nursing profession to meet the demands of changing health care delivery needs (IOM, 2010). In their partnership, both organizations agreed that to provide effective and accessible health care, nurses must be exceptional in health care delivery and possess leadership skills. A committee was elected by the IOM at the initiative of the RWJF to write a report that will make recommendations for a proposal that will put nurses and the future of nursing into action (IOM, 2010). The purpose of this essay is to discuss the work of Robert The Wood Johnson Foundation committee initiative and the Institute of Medicine study that motivated the future nursing report, verify the importance of this report in relation to nursing education, practice, and the workforce, also examines the function of state-based action coalitions and how they foster the Future of Nursing Action Plan nurses. Importance of this report The committee of this organization examines the role of nurses, the work environment and the level of training of nurses in its attempt to imagine what the nursing profession will be like in the future. After deliberating on the state of nursing, four key messages were developed by the committee which formed the recommendation it made in its report (IOM, 2010). These messages include: Nurses should practice according to their training and education. Nurses are expected to achieve a higher level of education and training through an improved educational system that promotes continued academic advancement. ...... middle of paper ...... from different institutions. The Advancing Nursing Education team focuses on nurse education. They are developing an extensive model to help every registered nurse obtain baccalaureate programs in the state. The second initiative, Advancing Nursing Practice Team, focuses on fully practicing nurses. They are working on a program to explain the role of nurses in the health care system. Conclusion The IOM report has highlighted the importance of nurses in the healthcare sector and the special role they can play in advancing healthcare. Due to the important role of nurses in health care reform, nurses must be up-to-date in all aspects of health care, which will help them meet the health needs of the diverse population.
