Essay / The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang - 811
History will never forget the pain because it takes an ethnicity, even a nation, to remember it. The Nanjing massacre, which constitutes the pain and shame of my country, will also not be forgotten or ignored. The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang, a Chinese-American writer, has reshaped my view of the atrocities committed by Japanese soldiers and raises a question: why must we remember and confront the past? Remembering history does not just mean being stuck in the past and stopping moving forward, but seeking the lessons that history has taught us and preventing the world from making the same mistakes again. The Rape of Nanking uses the Nanjing Massacre as its core and analyzes the Holocaust from the national perspectives of China, Japan and Western countries; he also analyzes this piece of history that has been distorted for half a century. The book is divided into two parts; the author begins the first part by explaining the Japanese bushido spirit and how it was forced to open the country to others, from the Meiji Restoration to the reinforcement of troops; from tasting the sweets of external expansion to the depression of international exclusion; from earthquake disaster to economic crisis, then expanded its army and reasons to invade China; it explains how the Japanese soldiers were divided into three groups and invaded Nanjing and when they got there how did they kill the Chinese soldiers and citizens and raped the Chinese ladies and it also mentions the issue of the women of comfort to address the problem and analyze the situation. motivation for the massacre. Nanjing was then in great chaos and even children could not escape the disaster. Chang also analyzes the tragic scene of the Chinese massacre by showing how middle of paper ...... aims to escape and even held a competition where the person who kills 100 people first will win the game. The Japanese continue to deny their actions and refuse to issue an official apology to all offenders. Their leaders go to the shrine to pay homage to their so-called heroes, unaware of how deeply these “heroes” have hurt the Chinese. During the Holocaust, living human beings were taken to the gas chamber and organs were removed to carry out the experiment. The way the Nazis treated the Jews was similar to the way the Japanese treated the Chinese. “Japanese bury alive, castrate and burn fresh humans”, history cannot be passed and must be remembered and we all must take racial discrimination and mass discrimination seriously. Racial killings should never happen again in our civilized world. The lessons have been bitter and painful and have been shared by millions of lives..
