Solomon's Temple as it relates to Israelite worship the LORD told my father David when he said, “Your son, whom I will put on the throne in your place, will build the temple for my name” (1 Kings 5:5 NIV). After David's death, around 970 BCE, his son Solomon desired to expand Jerusalem, the religious capital of the world (Freedman 355). David was deeply loved by God, so much so that God described him as “a man after my own heart.” However, God would not allow David to build him a temple because David was a man of war. God told David that when Solomon became king, he would build a great temple in the name of the Lord. Also called the Temple of Jerusalem and the First Temple, Solomon's Temple was located on Mount Zion, just north of the city of David (Parrot 498).
