Essay / The Negative Effects of Fast Food - 600
Waiting in line at a fast food restaurant, Jim could already taste the Quarter Pounder he was about to order. As he looked around, he noticed that many were already eating what looked like their seventh or eighth hamburger. He observes that a woman had to pull out a chair because she could not sit comfortably in the booth. Jim began to wonder how many quarter pounds this woman had eaten over the past few years from losing all control of herself. Even if someone buys fast food once a month or twice a week, it still has the same negative effect. When it comes to fast food, they don't hesitate to empty their wallets. Because what started as an affordable place to dine on the go, has now become one of man's worst enemies. Wendy Woloson said, “Overall U.S. fast food industry sales consistently represent an increasingly large percentage of overall consumer dollars spent on food, reflecting the growing role of fast food in society American” (“Fast Food”). Woloson means that the more people invest in the fast food industry, the more it grows. Without the sales of the eight-dollar combos or the new dollar menu, many would be able to afford what they want or need. Some people would even spend their last five dollars at a dollar menu McDonald's, who wouldn't want that delicious snack, which can only keep you going for an hour or so, instead of gas money. Fast food is fatty, high in cholesterol and calories and simply not good for your health. No matter what you eat, fast food is and always will be unhealthy. Pizza, fries, tacos and even the most popular of all, hamburgers, are all examples of dishes served at fast food restaurants.
