Essay / The role of models in the acquisition of knowledge
Models have become essential to the development of human knowledge. These are the methods that we follow, in order to simplify and understand more easily the carrying out of certain tasks involving the different areas of knowledge. When a method of thinking and a way of achieving a certain goal becomes popular, the rest of the community adopts it. Thus, as soon as one method of thinking becomes predominant over another, it is said to have become a pattern. For example, we can consider mathematical formulas, scientific procedures, and even our way of life, areas in which a distinct pattern is followed. A model can be a theory or schema used to consider a certain set of information in the same domain, presumed to be the only logical method intended for the advancement of that specific task. (For example, a cooking recipe.) However, someone may find this model unsuitable. Therefore, they decide to break away from the system and develop a new method. Additionally, those who create new paradigms (models) are considered rebels and radical extremists. Subsequently, can anyone define a boundary between; to what extent existing theories (paradigms) are valid; if they can be modified or if new ones can be created? We humans do not just live "day to day", but live hoping to learn more, become better and find the simplest way of doing things, in order to continue our lives, without complications. Human beings, by nature, are creatures who learn by imitating others and their actions are influenced by past experiences. We fear the unknown and need certainty. Therefore, knowing things in advance gives us security. Over the years, human beings have enriched their minds with knowledge, and...... middle of paper ...... in which they play a vital role in our development. Generally speaking, they function as tools that provide the structure necessary for our progress. They contributed to our learning by accumulating past and present knowledge, allowing us to plan ahead. However, how much is allowing paradigms to govern our lives the right way to live. Despite this, the challenge we face today is the elimination of certain models and/or the creation of new ones, which continue to provide us with the confidence and support necessary to guarantee success. But, at the same time, have the flexibility and intelligence to evolve with changing times. So far, having a model makes it easier to acquire knowledge. However, paradigms also limit its expansion, because, to some extent, they diminish people's creativity..
