More than 55 to 60 million people worldwide suffer from this disorder.2, 3, 4 Representing 1% of the world's population, stuttering can be caused by a non-genetic or genetic cause. Across all cultures, approximately 1% of people have a stuttering disorder.37 This includes all cultures and races around the world. It is a disorder that can affect people of all ages, regardless of their intelligence or socioeconomic status.5Gender: Men - Statistics show that more men than women have a stuttering problem; affecting four times more men than women. 6,7,8 However, the sex ratio is not distributed uniformly across ages. Around the age of 2 or 3, males and females generally have an equal chance of stuttering. By the first year, the sex ratio between boys and girls becomes 3:1, and by the fifth year, 5:1, and remains throughout adulthood.6Girls – Girls start to stutter earlier than boys and recover earlier than boys.3,6 According to research, the potential elements and causes due to unequal sex ratio cover various detected biases, insufficient number of intercourse, X-linked transmission, different social roles, or perhaps even a combination of environmental and genetic elements.
