Essay / Valentine's Day Massacre - 1185
The 1920s were a time of prohibition, illegal gambling and prostitution. The 18th Amendment made the sale and distribution of alcohol illegal. Many people, including Al Capone, were involved in these illegal activities. Al Capone was known for this illegal activity. He got rich manufacturing and distributing alcohol. He also owned many illegal bars. Many other gangs engaged in the same illegal activities. There was competition for alcohol. All the gangs wanted it since that was how they made their money. In order to make money, they had to eliminate opposing gangs to reduce competition. Al Capone never committed any of the murders. He asked his gang members to kill. They usually rented a room in front of the victim's house to stay hidden. Then they waited for the victim to come out. Then the gang members would shoot the person. Another way is to do a drive-by and have someone in the car blast the victim with an Uzi or Thompson machine gun. One of the most famous and recognizable gang wars took place between Al Capone and George 'Bugs' Moran. This happened in Chicago, Illinois on February 14, 1929. It was called "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre." In the morning, in a brick building that was a liquor warehouse. Five male members of the German-Irish gang controlled by George Moran. They were there because they thought there would be a hijacked whiskey truck. While the 7 men were inside the building, a black car stopped in front of the building. George Moran had spotted the car and took cover.
