The technological trapThe term technology has more than one meaning. Looking back at the world twenty years ago, technological advances were mere concepts. Today, all these concepts have become reality. When a country depends on technology to survive, there may be a problem that could be devastating if not resolved. Children in the 1950s looked at reality the same way children do today, except their eyes didn't see virtual reality. . They completed their school work as well as their work tasks with only their brains. Today, our brains have aids. These brain aids are technological advancements necessary to perform most of our daily activities. The term cyborg is defined as being both a human and a machine. This is what some of our children have become. Internet, virtual sex as well as virtual life; all these technological advances occupy our minds today. There are stories of people becoming addicted to the Internet or sitting in front of a computer all day. This is not only considered normal, but also normal. What happened to the idea that television rots the brain? What happened to your parents telling you to go play outside? This is what I remember hearing when I was little. Today, our children choose to stay home and play on computers. The Internet is a good source of information, as is television. Why is it considered acceptable for a child to sit in front of a computer and learn, but is it considered lazy if they sit in front of a television? This is a question I struggle to answer. Are we stuck in a corporate world? Are our entire lives saved on a computer somewhere? Are we dependent on technology for our banking, our shopping, our bills and even our communications? What would happen if all technology ceased to exist? I think it would end in disaster. There is a concept that has been researched that deals with the idea of an internal computer shutdown in the year 2000. This idea is known as "On the Year 2000 Problem". 2000". Computers run on internal clocks that operate on numbers such as one to one hundred. . These numbers correspond to the last two digits of the year.
