Essay / ||||You're a senior in college and you have a huge chemistry exam coming up. Studying for an exam can be very difficult to remember every little detail. Memory mnemonics are a certain way of studying and remembering things. According to Patten, “thanks to this system, verbal memory has increased considerably.” (Patten, 1 ) This tells us that the mnemonic system is a source of inspiration and is developing rapidly at the college level. Mnemonics use techniques of rhyming, acronyms, diagrams, which help people remember names, dates, facts, numbers, etc. In this article, I plan to use the mnemonic system to find out if this system actually works. Your memory is stored in the hippocampus, which is the area called the hippocampus area of your brain, which is located in the middle of your brain. When you think about a memory, different parts of your brain are more stimulated to recreate the scene. Some ways the brain remembers things involve some of your five or more senses, such as color, smell, taste, touch, feelings, and shapes. “People do NOT remember 10% of what they read, 20% of what they see, 30% of what they hear, etc.…” (Thalheimer, 2006). Your brain is capable of many things, one of the great things is being able to read with words all mixed up. The reason is that your brain doesn't just read a letter of the word, but reads the word. So you can write the word “read” as “raed”. Even if it is misspelled, your mind reads it correctly. The only thing that has to be correct for your brain to read it is that the first and last letters of the word are in the correct place. So here's an example... "At one point there was a dog next to a dot, she was the sweetest dog I had... middle of paper ...... too. Eating a healthy diet is a small and simple tool to help with mneomic memory. Getting your omega-3s is great. All of these fatty acids are actually very good for your brain. You can find omega-3 in seafood. If you don't like seafood, you can get it from walnuts, flaxseed oil, kidney and pinto beans, broccoli and seeds pumpkin. Drinking wine or grape juice may help reduce the risk of getting Alzheimer's disease. They say that for women, drinking one drink a day and for men, drinking two drinks a day will help. Doing all these little things will help you preserve your memory. These are all little tricks and memory tools Mneomics.Works Citedstam, tijmen. Memory mnemonics. Art.thalheimer, w. (May 1, 2006).
