I have many other points I wanted to make, not just explaining the requirements of a scholarship and what athletes go through. I also want to explain in detail that student-athletes should receive compensation for more than just a scholarship. There should be extra help because of what they have to do to maintain this scholarship. There is a historical point at the beginning that will help validate this opinion. Theodore Roosevelt founded the NCAA in 1905, he was opposed to paying student-athletes but only coaches (Edelman). As times have changed, coaches are now paid much more than athletes. And yet, athletes contribute more than coaches. In the end, it's always the athletes who get the short end of the stick. I want to integrate the statistics of the coaches for the student-athletes from different years and so far and you will see that the coaches receive a generous amount. Another statement to make is that the NCAA says athletes are students first, but they allow them to take certain periods of the day off to play in nationally televised games, which actually helps bring money to the school. Yet they receive nothing to replace missed schoolwork. Schools are reaping the fruits of their labor. For example, there will be details about events like March Madness and other televised tournaments or game shows, but why aren't athletes seeing any of that? Student-athletes are always responsible for their academic and athletic maintenance. This is a full-time job and a scholarship only covers part of it and does not compare the hard work and dedication that is required in both cases. They are not paid for their talents and services. They contribute a lot to the school but are not paid anything.
