    Being a student-athlete not only involves motivation on the playing field, but also improving your education and learning skills such as leadership and communication. I have researched this topic extensively and discovered many misconceptions that lead athletes to be stereotypical jocks. In today's society, many people have different views on sports participation that promotes academic development (Joseph). There are many reasons to believe this is important or not. However, research has been done that critically analyzes student-athletes and non-student athletes. Some studies indicate that student-athletes do not have the same competitive motivation in the classroom as they do on the playing field, while others claim that being a student-athlete helps promote better development in the classroom.
