  • Essay / Analysis of Tom Regan's Animal Rights, Human Wrongs

Regan talks about how some animals are killed and beaten, but he doesn't go beyond describing a few animal cruelty situations. By controlling the lives of many animals in this world, I believe humans are violating the moral rights of animals as well as their inherent worth, because they cannot live a better or worse life for themselves. This is true because many humans view animals simply as a means, meaning they do not care about an animal's life and therefore do not treat it with any value compared to how they treat humans. Nevertheless, I agree with Tom Regan's plan to shed light on the animal rights debate by taking action today and speaking on behalf of animals, because they cannot speak for themselves and without humans who speak in their name, animal rights will never exist. Additionally, I agree with many of the points made by Tom Regan in his article "Animal Rights, Human Wrongs", but I conclude that for his argument about animal rights to be strong everywhere, it should make sure to expand the variety of animal rights. the animals he talks about are being held and killed by humans. In conclusion, I believe that if one animal has rights, then ALL animals should have rights. If Regan talked more about the lives of controlled animals, he would really be able to show that humans are taking away basic rights that animals should have, even if they aren't..
