    Propaganda is used to get people to think or believe something that might not actually be true. This is when information of a biased or misleading nature is used to promote or publicize a particular cause or political point of view (dictionary). In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, the animals revolt against the human owner of the farm and take over the leadership of the higher class animals, the pigs. Orwell wrote Animal Farm to represent and symbolize Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist Party rule. Pigs are very similar to Joseph Stalin and his successful manipulation of becoming a leader to his people. Just as Stalin did in Russia, through their use of propaganda, the pigs gain power by manipulating lower level animals through their use of simplicity and repetition, lies and trust. In Animal Farm, the pigs identify and connect with Joseph Stalin and the Russian Revolution because they both had power and gained leadership through agitprop techniques (Stults). “How easily totalitarian propaganda can control the opinions of enlightened people. » -George Orwell. This famous literary work, Animal Farm, was written by George Orwell himself between 1917 and 1945 after World War II because farmers wanted to have a better life in general. In the book, Napoleon soon becomes the leader after the rebellion. Much like Stalin, Napoleon used military force on animals and intimidated them. Snowball represents Trotsky because he is a forward-thinking politician who wants to improve and help with the windmill, but is chased away by vicious dogs sent by Napoleon before he can do so. Like Stalin, the pigs develop and gain their power by manipulating animals with propaganda techniques. Middle of paper is there to do more work while they lie on their backs and drink because animals are too stupid to realize they are being treated unfairly. Because pigs have advantages in intelligence, they take advantage of the fact that animals have no idea what is really going on. Even though the pigs rarely do anything, they get more portions of food. Toward the end of the book, the animals see that while they are working very hard on the farm, the pigs are inside, drinking and talking with the humans. Even if they don't realize it, they are not treated the same way. Pigs have a lot of power over animals because they know that the animals cannot realize that they are doing all the work. The animals believe that the pigs are telling the truth. For this reason, the pigs take full advantage and choose to slack off and take the animals' trust for granted...
