Paul wrote down every detail of every day they faced this battle. The couple was always happy because they were healthy. Same-sex marriage is very common these days and there are younger generations of gay men today. Many same-sex couples are more likely to contract AIDS. Love struck the author and he decided to write a book about his lover and life companion. The author said he didn't remember anything in his diary from December 1981. He thought they were reports of gay cancer, he added, but he knew he didn't know nothing about cancer. There was no such thing as gay cancer, and a few months later, while traveling to Palm Springs to visit Roger's parents, Paul read aloud the headline of a gay magazine article that said " Does sex make us sick? He was under the impression that this statement was true but that couples who did this had intimacy or, in other words, sex. He thought it was a disease that targeted gay men, but there is no disease that targets people because of their sexuality. Paul thought it wasn't them, at least not yet. It was also not a disease that had positive outcomes. A year later, Paul received a call from his best friend, Cesar, who was a teacher in San Francisco, who told Paul's lover that he looked like he had cancer because of his symptoms , but that AIDS had not even crossed his mind. Caesar sometimes made jokes about Paul and his lover and joked about their friendship and how they were more serious than a friendship. Cesar didn't like anything weird or a...... middle of paper ...... exploring different cultures and meeting people of their same sexuality. Finally, Paul explains that he was next to Roger at the bedside, that they were both sick so they supported each other. He prayed to God every night for giving him another day of life for which he was grateful. He was snuggled up next to Roger and he was thanking the lord for everything they had right now and for everything they had before their illness. He counted his blessings and knew what he was about to lose. He had AIDS, a deadly virus that would ruin his body from the inside out and all because this virus was transmitted through sexual intercourse. This was indeed the case for sexual relations between homosexual men. He felt chills when he had to go to the clinic and get checked to see if his virus was getting better or worse. He had nightmares visiting Roger while he was dying on the 8th floor of the Hospitala.
