Essay / Technology product innovation for sustainable energy
Technology product innovation for sustainable energy in buildings generally includes two categories of technical solutions: energy-saving technologies and renewable energy technologies (Brindle et al., 2007). Energy efficiency is the use of less energy than the industrial standard for ventilation, heating, cooling, artificial lighting to meet the desired thermal comfort and work requirements of building occupants (Intrachooto, 2002) . Energy efficiency often takes two forms: reducing energy demand and using fossil energy as efficiently as possible. Energy demand can be reduced by avoiding energy waste and implementing energy saving measures (Action Energy, 2002). This must be accomplished while maintaining thermal comfort (felt temperature, heating and cooling), visual comfort (light and shading), and air quality (fresh air, removal of pollution and excess heat) (Monash University, 2010). More efficient use of fossil energy can be achieved by performing the same task with less energy, using the same amount of energy but producing a more useful or higher value product, and redefining the task so that it can be performed using less energy (Clement et al., 2009). ). As Intelligent Energy (IE, 2009) argues, energy efficiency issues depend on the passive and active qualities of the building. The passive qualities of the building involve issues linked to its geometry, its design and the choice of materials and largely influence its lighting, temperature and ventilation. Active qualities relate to technical installations (lighting, heating, ventilation and cooling), complementing the passive qualities of the building to create a comfortable indoor climate (IE, 2009). Such energy-saving technologies include...... middle of article...... on which this research study is based. Additionally, the term sustainable energy innovation is used to represent both energy-saving innovations and renewable energy innovations. In other words, the term sustainable energy innovation is used in this research study to represent innovations implemented to reduce energy demand, use fossil fuels more efficiently, or use renewable energy. Therefore, taking into account the above distinctions, the following definition of sustainable energy innovation is adopted: Sustainable energy innovations are new technological product innovations that are successfully integrated into design strategies in order to prevent or Significantly reduce the negative impacts of energy consumption by reducing energy consumption. demand, by increasing energy efficiency or using new methods of producing renewable energy
