  • Essay / Why Societies Collapse - 910

If one were to look back at civilizations that collapsed in the past, it might be difficult to decipher why. How could societies that were dominant forces in their time collapse? Societies collapse because of corrupt leaders, greed, and unfair treatment of citizens. Many great societies, such as Rome and Macedonia, collapsed in the past, but knowing the reasons for this fall can be useful for the future. Societies collapse because of corrupt and evil leaders. The leader of Nazi Germany from approximately 1930 to 1945 was a very corrupt and evil leader. Although he made the society prosperous, he discriminated against his people. “As tyranny spread through society, the rulers and their collaborators persecuted and murdered millions more” (Society First Reading, last paragraph). This quote talks about tyranny and the corrupt leader who was at the head of Germany. The leader finally brought society back to hard times when he started war between countries around the world. Corrupt leaders also use their power for evil. In Greece, leaders often passed laws that helped the rich and hurt the poor. “By passing laws that favored the rich, oligarchs protected and increased their own wealth” (TCI, lesson 2, section 3). Discriminating against the poor and favoring the rich through laws provokes uprisings. People are fed up and reacting. Whatever the outcome of the conflict, society is very fragile. Another example comes from Syria. In Syria, the leader is very corrupt and he is a bad leader. He has led the country into economic despair. When things got tough, he resigned and left the country. He didn't try to fix the problem himself. “..after President Viktor Yanukovych fled the capital....... in the middle of the newspaper ......discriminated. The race accomplished great things but was still discriminated against. The rulers began killing millions of this race, calling it the "final solution." The leaders of society have killed millions of people in their own and other societies. One of the main reasons why societies collapse is discrimination against citizens. No matter how big a society is, it can always collapse, if it falls victim to corrupt bad leaders, greed and unfair rights for citizens, it will. Societies collapse for many reasons. Societies collapse when they discriminate against their citizens, are greedy, and have bad/corrupt leaders. Examples of these cases come from Rome, Syria, Germany and even America. Even the largest companies can collapse for these reasons. It is important to learn from societies that have collapsed in the past to improve in the future..
