    Military laws are different from civil laws. They apply to people who are in the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines. It differs from civil laws which are aimed at civilians and attempt to maintain calm and peace and military law strives to promote order, morale and discipline. (Brannon Jr. 1 of 5). In the military, a person accused of misconduct often faces a process called a court-martial. It looks like a criminal trial. Commanders had great power to manage courts-martial: they could convene a tribunal, select its members, and review the tribunal's decision with the power to disapprove the sentence and remand the case.
