North Korea and Bosnia and Herzegovina are two countries that have many interesting characteristics. They are similar but different in many aspects of their physical, political and cultural geography. The climate and natural environment of Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Korea are similar, although they are approximately 8,000 kilometers apart. Both countries' histories have been turbulent, but their history has helped them get to where they are today. The climate of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a mixture of continental climate, also called temperate, and Mediterranean climate. A continental climate is made up of hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. In a Mediterranean climate, temperatures are more moderate with milder winters than a continental climate and sunny, dry summers (Milivojevic 24-25). In the mountains, winters are cold and summers mild and rainy; however, most of the country experiences mild winters and hot, dry summers (“Bosnia and Herzegovina” 4). Bosnia and Herzegovina has a different climate depending on the region. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a mild climate. In the upper part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, commonly called Bosnia, the climate is close to that of continental Europe. The average temperature in the Bosnia region is around 32°F in January, and the average temperature in July is around 72°F. It also has lower average precipitation and snowfall in winter than the Herzegovina region. The Herzegovina region, closer to the Mediterranean Sea, is normally warmer than the Bosnia region. The average temperature in January is 42°F and the average temperature in July is 78°F. Herzegovina receives most of its precipitation from October to June (Englar, 13-14).
