When the need for power is exercised in a moral and socially constructive manner, rather than at the expense of others, leaders inspire more trust, respect, and commitment to their vision (Bateman, pp 399, 2007). » According to the text, “Control is defined as any process that directs the activities of individuals towards the achievement of organizational objectives. It is how effective managers ensure that things go as planned (Bateman, pp 520, 2007). The combination of these two concepts, leadership and control, helps to formulate an ideology that becomes integral to the success or failure of any business entity. This article will give Team D the opportunity to delve into the leadership and control mechanisms of Sears Holdings. The focus of this article will be to identify the current CEO of Sears Holdings and get an overview of his background i.e. his training, education and previous employment. Identify one's leadership style, evaluate the effectiveness of this leadership style based on the performance of Sears Holdings, and explain the different control mechanisms used in the organization to determine effectiveness.
