Essay / The Role of Religion in America's Development
Religion has been and likely always will be one of the most controversial topics in our world. There have been so many historical events, debates, riots, movements and roles that have been contributed because of religion. Some say that without religion, people would have nothing to believe in. Others say that if there were no religion, most of our problems that have occurred and are occurring would not even occur. For me, I think religion is what countries live on. Even though we don't necessarily have "religion" in our government, we have the freedom to practice religion and have the right to speak about it. Honestly, I feel like religion has played an extremely positive role in America's development, even though we've had to overcome some minor obstacles. To begin with, the role of religion in establishing our new world was enormous. This was the main reason why most people ventured to this part of the world. Many people suffered from religious intolerance in England and did not like it. With all the disease and famine going on, they believed that God wanted them to venture into this new land to be safe in their lives. Others simply wanted to bring their knowledge of their God to the natives, to spread their religion as far as possible. Once they arrived in the New World, things were more tolerable than in England. At first, many religious groups naturally drifted away from each other, but after a while there were so many communities with all different types of religion, and I think that's where it was a result positive for this New World. I think that without the religious tolerance that each group gave itself, our world would not have even gotten to the point where it was 100 years... middle of paper ...... embroiled in war. Overall, religion has played a vital role in our American history. Religion was the main reason English settlers came to the new world. Whether it helped lead Americans toward Revolution against Great Britain or was used by everyday Americans during the Civil War, religion will always be an important element in any issues that arise in the world. I think what we can learn from all this information is that religion will never be left behind, no matter how much we wish to do so. We are taught that we cannot always listen to what others tell us about religion, but that we must learn, read, and write about it ourselves to fully understand. Religion will never be left out of political or economic issues and it will always remain the backbone of this nation. Without religion we would not have the nation we have today.
