    The popular microblogging platform Twitter has had a major impact on society and the way people interact with each other. It has evolved from a social networking site to a potential emergency alert system as well as a platform for quickly distributing links to breaking news and videos and, finally, a means to document legal proceedings (Pocklington). Twitter has been used as a method of disseminating information in many major trials since its inception in 2006, including: the Jodi Arias murder trial, the Casey Anthony murder trial, and the George Zimmerman murder trial. Even if a journalist's job description includes the obligation to report their findings impartially, the growing use of Twitter may not allow for such neutrality. Twitter's 140 character limit could potentially hinder a journalist's ability to use neutral vocabulary, or a journalist could deliberately choose words with certain connotations in order to gain "retweets" and "favorites", thereby increasing the number of its subscribers. a, or the readership of its publication. Although intended to be a more interactive social media, Twitter is quickly becoming a broadcast medium due to the discrepancies in users' follower counts – some number in the millions, like CNN Breaking News (@ccnbrk) with over 14.5 million followers (TwitterCounter). Twitter also does not regulate its content, meaning that anyone can create an account and "report" on any topic with little or no concern for potential bias or overzealous reporting. If an arrest or crime is widely publicized via Twitter, it can be nearly impossible to find a fully impartial jury, as required by the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution.
