    High-performing cultures continually strive to improve. Continuous feedback is necessary for this continuous improvement. Without feedback, you are walking blind. At best, you will accidentally achieve your goal. At worst, you will wander aimlessly in the darkness, never reaching your destination (retrieved September 28, 2013 from www.opm.gov). Dodging comments can be very detrimental; we always get stuck in this particular situation. Positive or negative feedback not only improves/degrades performance, but also has a huge effect on self-image. Self-concept is a set of beliefs about oneself; mental image, self-esteem and personal competence. Leaders should be careful when giving negative feedback, when making their specific suggestions; they should also talk about positives. This helps put the person in a comfortable position. If this is not done, negative comments can lead to a negative self-image. This research study will examine and consider various effects of feedback on job performance and self-image. Performance review or appraisal is something that makes our hearts sink. Growing up, our teachers evaluated us at school and parents tried to do the same at home. It didn't change much after growing up. Teachers were replaced by managers and supervisors. Although it is scary to know whether a person performed well or poorly, feedback always leads to some sort of change in the way we think or work. This change is essential to kill the monotony of work. Extensive research has been conducted to evaluate the impact of feedback on performance and self-concept. Managers take time out of their busy schedules to review employee performance, which indicates that they care and value their employees' contributions. Managers want to contribute to the development and career trajectory of their employees. The comments are not about personal attacks, but about improvement. For greater happiness at work, it seems essential to listen to what the boss has to say and deactivate defense mechanisms. To maintain high employee retention, improve workplace productivity, and reduce turnover, providing feedback is essential. which acts as a morale booster and does not hurt the ego.
