  • Essay / Army and conquests of the Aztecs. - 2319

The Aztecs are a wandering Indian people. This means that the Aztecs were nomads. The Aztecs are one of the three largest American Indian peoples. This civilization, which was also a highly developed agricultural society, flourished primarily in the 14th century until 1521. They conquered most of what is now Mexico in the 15th century. The Aztecs were very superstitious. They quickly perceived the events as omens. From the moment when, according to legend, the god Quetzalcoatl would return from the East and destroy their empire, the Aztecs saw the end of their empire in sight. That wasn't the only reason they thought that. There had been a fire in the temple of Huitzilopochtli, they had seen a comet in the sky and other “omens”. To defuse these omens, the Aztecs continued to conquer in order to collect even more slaves for sacrifice. Because of these numerous human sacrifices, even cities that had nothing against the Aztecs turned against these bloodthirsty people. The Aztecs were almost constantly at war. It was because they were very warlike. War was in their nature. The Aztecs had only one goal in all these wars: to conquer and obtain slaves. That wasn't the only reason. The Aztecs also waged war for raw materials and because their religion permitted it. Tribute was also one of the main reasons for conquests. He flocked to Tenochtitlán from all parts of the empire. Everything a region owned or produced had to be ceded. Products and items arrived every day. These were carried by people or transported by canoes.
