According to Social Media Today, “seventy-two percent of all Internet users are now active on social media” (Romeri, 2014). Facebook has over a billion users and Instagram has over a hundred million active users (Romeri, 2014). These statistics illustrate our culture's extensive use of social media. It is therefore important to recognize the impact that social media has on our communities and how it affects different aspects of daily life. One aspect of life that social media is starting to impact is the world of work. Extensive research has shown that employers are now using several different social media feeds to discover potential future employees. As a result, it is becoming increasingly clear that social media is influencing the employee selection and recruitment process in the workplace.
