Essay / My Doctor, My Lover, the Movie - 655
A quick summary of the movie “My Doctor, My Lover” and my understanding of what the movie was about. A 30-year-old woman feels depressed and guilty about an extramarital affair that she has just ended. She consults a psychiatrist, but her condition continues to worsen. After a year and a half, she quits therapy with him following a discussion in his office about how she and the doctor felt about each other. They then begin a sexual affair. Colorado-based Dr. Jason Richter admitted to having sexual relations with his former patient, Melissa Roberts-Henry. The dispute was whether he took advantage of her condition, as his lawsuit alleged, or whether she voluntarily entered into the relationship, as he said. Even though this film was made in 1991, it was a powerful portrait of what is ethical in a psychiatrist. and its customer relations. I believe what Dr. Richter did was completely unethical and should have had more sanctions against him and not his insurance. I believe that most people who have the courage to consult a psychiatrist are vulnerable and fragile and should be treated with caution. This doctor did not do that. He only had his well-being in mind, that is to say a sexual conquest. I would hate to call a woman weak-minded, but it was clear while watching the film that she could have some of these characteristics and could be prone to suggestibility making her easily open to influence and exploitation. This is exactly what happened. I believe the Doctor was aware of this and took advantage of his state of mind and agitation. I believe because she came to him in such a state that he tended to cause her mental damage. I was surprised that the relationship lasted 3 years and that it took so long for her husband to notice her depressed state. ...... middle of paper ...... eats, abuses or bullies another. The Doctor isolated her from her friends and family. She became suicidal, depressed and began self-harming. What's even more hypercritical is that he even indicated in his notes that having sex with her would be destructive to her. In conclusion, I am appalled that the doctor got away with it. Yes, his confidence took a hit but it should have been him. In my experience seeing a psychiatrist, I have never had anyone approach me in a sexual manner. I think if that were the case I would try to find a new psychiatrist and possibly report him to the hospital for work. I would be interested if there have been any current cases involving doctors and the sexual behavior of their clients. I honestly believe this is why ethical laws were developed. It's because of doctors like this who think it's okay to do whatever they want..
