  • Essay / Moses and John the Baptist - 1354

In this article, I will compare and contrast two biblical figures. The two characters I chose are Moses and John the Baptist. I selected these two important figures because I believe their stories greatly shaped and influenced Christianity. I chose Moses because he is one of the first characters introduced. He played an important role in freeing the Israelites from slavery and introducing the Ten Commandments. I chose John the Baptist because he is one of the most famous characters in the Bible. He played a unique role in what was to come and Who, or as many know as the Messiah. The story of Moses began in the Exodus. Moses was one of God's first prophets. He led the Israelites into exile from the slavery of the Egyptian empire. Moses was born at a time when the pharaoh ordered his people to kill all newborn Israelite babies by throwing them into the Nile, lest the Israelites grow in number. He was afraid that they would become too powerful and overthrow his empire. When Moses was born, his mother decided to hide him for three months. Finally, she couldn't hide it anymore. So she put him in a woven basket and placed the basket on the bank of the Nile. Soon after, the pharaoh's daughter came to the river to take a bath. She spots the basket and sends one of her slaves to fetch it and bring it back to her. When she opened the basket, she saw baby Moses crying. She immediately knew it was a Hebrew baby, but she felt sorry for him and wanted to raise him. Moses' older sister, who was watching from afar, ran over and asked if she wanted her to go find a Hebrew woman who could nurse the child. Pharaoh's daughter approves of his offer, so she went searching middle of paper......gave sermons about the nearness of God's final judgment. He asked people to repent of their sins and baptized those who apologized in preparation for the “day of judgment.” According to Scripture, John was the only person to recognize Jesus as the people's Messiah. Around the age of thirty, John began preaching on the banks of the Jordan. He preached against the evils of the time and attracted men to penance and baptism. His only message to the people was to repent, because of the coming Messiah. John was named a baptizer because of the large number of people he baptized. According to the Holy Scriptures, Christ also turned to John for baptism. By baptizing Jesus, John instantly recognized the Lord and proclaimed Him to be the Messiah. The baptism of Jesus is the beginning of Jesus' ministry. In turn, John inspired his disciples to follow Christ..
