The world can be divided into two main groups depending on whether or not the country exhibits economic interdependence or unstable leadership and an absence of international trade. The functional core, characterized by economic interdependence, can be subdivided into old core (North America, Western Europe, Japan, Australia) and new core (China, India). And the unintegrated gap, characterized by unstable leadership and an absence of international trade, includes the Middle East, South Asia (except India), most of Africa, l Southeast Asia and northwest South America.
