Essay / Leadership: An Introduction - 1331
Leadership is a subject that has been studied for many years in an effort to understand the subject. It is a complex phenomenon, best studied across a wide range of scientific fields. No matter what one believes or understands about the subject, the reality regarding understanding leadership is that it is a multi-dimensional subject that is best viewed or studied from a theoretical perspective rather only from the point of view of the maxim. Leadership is a process that involves influence, occurs in a group context, and involves the achievement of goals. These elements are used to define leadership as a process by which an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Maxims can be productive in the study of leadership when gaps in knowledge are identified, but most maxims are like a case study of a contributor who shapes his or her explanation through the basis of confirmation. This is why leadership theory is the best course of action to follow when attempting to further study current and future leadership issues. Northouse, Peter G. (2013) Leadership: theory and practice.
