  • Essay / The advantages and disadvantages of inequalities in the labor market - 1006

Reducing inequalities through policyKrahn p 156Ehrenreich p. 235-236ConclusionBarbara Ehrenreich comments on the increasing prevalence of downward mobility: “…once you fall into the trap of low wages and survival employment, there is a good chance that you will stay there” (2006, p. 210). There is no better pressure group than the unemployed and underemployed to expand the primary labor market and change the way employers save money (Ehrenreich, 2006, p. 236). I agree with Ehrenreich that change cannot be left to employers and governments, as they have the most to gain by perpetuating inequality and insecurity. The way to bring about change is for the marginalized, the unemployed and the underemployed to unite/organize for a common goal. While this is the largest and fastest growing segment of the workforce, a significant impact is certainly expected.
