  • Essay / Collaboration in a Culturally Diverse Team - 1026

Achieving results with a team composed of members likely dispersed over great distances is an increasingly difficult task without leveraging the necessary resources available for remote collaboration. Several factors are considered when building an effective team. Creating a team from a group of people from diverse backgrounds is not an easy task because group members must first learn how to collaborate as a team before they can even consider completing a project together. Teams have a clear objective with defined roles for each of its participants. Collaboration with the use of technological resources comes into play when a team is made up of geographically distributed members. Becoming aware of each team member's strengths as well as available resources is essential to a team's success. How a team works together affects its ability to successfully complete a project or task cooperatively. “Each person in a group may have different ideas about the best way to solve a given problem” (Working Together, 171). Team members must “learn to be open to new ideas and develop skills of listening, questioning, and consensus building” (Working Together 173). A lack of trust among team members limited their individual and collective voices, limiting the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and opinions” (Working Together, 174). Building trust and creating an atmosphere for open communication allows team members to feel comfortable expressing their opinions. Without this, some team members might be "afraid to express an opposing view... middle of paper ...... as the resources available for remote communication across multiple formats have become greater than ever. Creating a team composed of a group of remote people is only possible when the team has a clear goal, uses the resources available for remote collaboration, and recognizes the strengths of each of its members. In our task-oriented society, time is more precious than ever; time management within a team is therefore essential. Results are only achieved when individuals in a group are dedicated to the success of the team. Works cited Team management. Apollo Library.
