In order to prevent cardiovascular diseases, one simple thing that an individual can do is to do some sort of physical activity every day. Physical activity reduces blood pressure, reduces LDL cholesterol or “bad” cholesterol and increases HDL cholesterol or “good” cholesterol. In a combination of studies, in heart attack patients, the results of regular exercise reduced the mortality rate by 20 to 25 percent (Meyers, 2015). Generally, when a person does not participate in any physical activity, they are overweight. When an individual is overweight, it will most likely lead to some type of cardiovascular disease. A common type of cardiovascular disease is coronary heart disease (CHD). Coronary artery disease occurs when plaque builds up in the coronary arteries, which supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart. If these arteries are blocked, it can cause angina, heart discomfort, heart attack or heart failure, which is when the heart cannot pump the correct amount of blood the body needs. to function correctly. Another type of cardiovascular disease is high blood pressure, which occurs when the arteries are too small due to a buildup of cholesterol. When blood tries to flow through the arteries, the pressure is too high. Which can lead to harm to the body.
