Honesty is my value that I believe will be important as I continue through the criminal justice system. One point we talked about in class is that in criminal justice, all we have is our word. One dishonest mistake and our credibility is lost. Honesty is important because there is currently a lot of public distrust in the system. Law enforcement is subject to close surveillance. A spark in justice has been ignited. People feel like they're being lied to. Black Lives Matter or All Lives Matter has created division and alienated citizens from the system. My ultimate goal after graduation is to become a police officer. Being a minority and expressing interest in becoming an officer creates some negativity. I'm tired of going on social media and seeing comments like "all officers are murderers". It's very discouraging. I have seen and heard so much negativity over the past few months. This is why I believe that values such as honesty are very important. Getting people to believe in the criminal justice system again requires honesty. Another point we made in class is that in the field of criminal justice, we hold people's lives in our hands. Going into law enforcement, I know that there are constantly situations that I will face in which I only have fractions of a second to rationally assess the situation. Honesty within the criminal justice system ensures a fair and credible system. Without honesty, the system cannot earn respect. People won't trust
