  • Essay / Sultanate of Oman on Energy Sources - 1184

Most of the energy consumed in the world so far is conventional energy, namely oil, gas and coal , etc. In this report, I have brought together information from different sources to answer some questions about the Sultanate of Oman and the conventional use of energy in the country. The questions are as follows: Q1: Discuss and write about the conventional energy sources that are widely used in Oman and provide examples with statistics. Q2: Find out and discuss the environmental impact in Oman due to the use of conventional energy sources. Q3: Discuss and critically analyze current and future applications of renewable energy in Oman and provide relevant examples. Answers: Q1: The geographical nature of Oman is filled with conventional energy sources such as: coal, natural gas and oil. Natural gas and oil are the most widely used conventional energy sources in Oman. The Sultanate of Oman has been extracting oil since the 1960s, making it a very reliable source of energy in the country. Revenues from oil and natural gas accounted for around 40% of Oman's gross domestic product in 2012 and are likely to continue to rise. In the Middle East, Oman is considered the largest non-OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) oil producer, so all revenue from oil exports goes directly to the country's budget. Oman's oil consumption increased steadily between 2003 and 2012. Petroleum products consumed in Oman are mainly distillate and residual fuel oil as well as motor gas. Transportation fuel consumption almost doubled between 2006 and 2012, refinery capacity no longer meets domestic demand...... middle of paper ...... Wind turbines use the movement energy of air flow that turns the turbines, which will transform this energy into electricity. If a wind farm were established in the Dhofar mountain range and connected to the Salalah power system, the capacity of the wind system would represent 3% of the total capacity of the Salalah power system. The highest wind speed recorded was at Thumrait and Quiroon Hariti. area which makes it the perfect place to build a wind farm project and here is a photo of the area showing how the hills are clear and allow the wind to pass freely. Oman is a country with many renewable energy sources, they can easily be found everywhere. country, high density of solar energy can be found virtually anywhere in the country. So I hope that in the coming years many projects will be launched to use these renewable energy sources and cause less damage to the environment..
