Essay / The Impact of Workforce Diversity - 1014
Diversity in the workplace can be controversial. It is especially when it is viewed negatively that it is controversial. Fortunately, there are numerous laws to protect the rights of many minorities who commonly face discrimination in the workplace. Interestingly, since companies “must” hire candidates without discrimination, they have found that having diversity in the work environment is actually beneficial. There are many benefits to having a diversity of age, gender and disabled employees in the workforce. Age diversity is healthier and more interesting in the workplace. It becomes a learning experience for young and old alike. Many younger employees learn from older groups who have been with the company longer. Likewise, many older employees discover new and fresh ideas from younger workers. The two age groups tend to balance out. Although younger employees tend to be fun and agile, they generally don't have the discipline or stamina that older workers have. So it's good to have older workers in the company to help keep the younger ones up to date. Young workers are easier to train; therefore, they easily maintain company goals and standards. Age groups are different, so they also have different experiences and ideas that improve the work environment. There may be times when tempers and attitudes can spiral out of control. It is therefore important that good managers work closely with groups to ensure fairness. Although there may be conflicts between the age groups, it is important to understand that they are both needed in the company and they both contribute to the company in their own way. (Moore) Men once dominated the business world. They usually had management titles and well-paying jobs. On the other hand, women were expected to be housewives. There were few women in the workforce, but their jobs were generally subordinate, in lower-level positions, and salaries were minimal. Today, women are taking over. Many companies have higher levels of gender diversity. Men and women do not share the same approach or ideas, which is beneficial for the company. Differences create balance with fresh and varied ideas.
