Because of these professional and selfless values, it is no surprise that the nursing profession has received the highest ranking in the annual Gallup Poll on Honesty and Ethics for the eleventh year. Eighty-one percent of Americans say nurses have “high” or “very high” ethical standards (Gallup). Obviously, the American public has a very high opinion of nurses, but when the television comes on, these highly respected people are portrayed on popular medical television series as disposable sex objects and subordinate assistants.
