Essay / Helping the Homeless - 718
Homelessness is everywhere, it's not a new trend and it's a growing problem. Many people wonder whether or not I should help the homeless; it's easier to ignore the problem than to help. Every person needs help at some point in their life and the homeless should be no exception. Helping the homeless with health care, housing, and child care is one way people can and should help the homeless. Many homeless people lack access to health care and go many years without seeing a doctor. According to Fitzpatrick, “there is a clear and defined need for health care for homeless people and their families.” She is right, in today's society homelessness is simply ignored by many people and has become a serious problem. Most of society is unaware of the organizations that help the homeless. For example, Fitapatrick believes that an organization called The Opening Doors Project is a group of nurses and other health professionals who are interested in substance abuse within the homeless community. shelter. Due to not seeing a doctor and the fact that homeless people are known to abuse drugs and alcohol, "homeless people can have complex and multiple health problems" (which cited). Not everyone agrees with Fitzpatrick: “I'm convinced that handouts are fundamentally wrong,” Sherman says. She believes that giving anything to the homeless will not help change the situation of the homeless (Sherman). Sherman's advice makes no sense, ignoring the problem won't help either and without proper medical care there is no way to improve the health of the homeless which will lead to the death of many people of an unnecessary death. According to Hopper, "the driving forces behind widespread homelessness run deep and correcting them will require...... middle of paper...... parents, so parents will then understand how to live a better life." People should help the homeless by helping them with health care, housing, and child care. Homelessness is not a new trend and is increasing every day. Homeless people should be no different than anyone else when it comes to getting help.
