After several days of taking notes in class, completing my Values ​​and Issues Worksheet, and discovering the results of these papers, I concluded that my political philosophy was liberal. In addition to these classroom activities, my liberal view on many issues has influenced the political party with which I feel most comfortable – the Democratic Party – and the political subgroup – the Tea Party – with which I feel least comfortable. However, my liberalism really stands out in the issues I consider important - immigration, education, and health care - as I advocate for people who lack access to these basic and essential resources. Before defining my political philosophy, I considered myself a moderate. As far as I knew, a liberal was someone who promoted radical change, while a conservative was someone who wanted no change – neither group seemed appealing to me due to their negative associations. However, after learning more about each group in class while completing the World and American Political Models and identifying my values, I realized that I was a liberal. As I completed the values ​​worksheets, problem handout, and lecture notes, I got very liberal results on all of these worksheets. There was very little that was conservative, and even some of those conservative views could be subject to change. My realization brought me some surprise and I felt conflicted. The conflict arose in my determination of values. In deciding which question I considered important, I realized that I had not considered many of these questions before this project. I also realized that I didn't know enough about these topics, for example the budget deficit, to make an informed decision. Another reason I felt conflicted had to do with how middle of paper......their own group, which is not a good sign within a party. They also support: repealing ObamaCare, which I believe is necessary because, as an advanced country, it is embarrassing to not have universal health care; anti-abortion, who, although I am against abortion, does not think the government should control a very personal issue regarding a woman's health and sex life; anti-gay marriage, which, in my opinion, dehumanizes homosexuals; anti-environmental regulations, which I think is wrong because we are harming our health just as we are harming the environment; gun owners' rights, which I believe increase the risk of crime and suicide, not to mention accidents involving young children; and sealing the border, which not only prevents immigrants from leading better lives, but also tears families apart when immigrants are sent back to their home countries, while their children remain in the United States..
