  • Essay / Attachment and Attachment - 1217

Ideas and understanding of the child and childhood vary widely among theories and researchers. However, one thing is clear: the role of parents in the harmonious and safe development of children can hardly be overestimated. From the first days of their life, children depend on their parents, as they develop their own beginnings of social reality. However, these social conceptions are likely to evolve, depending on the quality of child-parent relationships. At the heart of these relationships is the concept of attachment. It is the degree of physical and emotional closeness between the child and the caregiver. “As attachments develop throughout life, clinical and neurobiological evidence points to the importance of early foundations, remaining, like a wall, important no matter what is added to it” (Rees, 2007, p. 920 ). The purpose of this work is to examine the importance of attachment in early childhood development and the implications of overattachment (or overattunement) for tendencies that manifest later in life . The role of parents in a child's early childhood is crucial. This is the stage where the most appropriate balance between attachment and freedom must be found. Insufficient attention to the achievements and problems of the child is as harmful as the parents' excessive desire to keep the child as close as possible. This is why attachment remains a popular topic of discussion in the theoretical and empirical literature. The roots of the concept of attachment date back to 1969, when John Bowlby proposed a new theory to explain children's behaviors and emotional reactions (Breidenstine, Bailey, Zeanah, & Larrieu, 2011). Currently, the attachment system is described as a combination of emotions and behaviors...... middle of paper ......attachment is either too little or too much. To a large extent, this is the greatest weakness in current knowledge of early childhood development. Thus, even in the presence of relevant theoretical knowledge, parents are left alone in their choices. They take full responsibility for keeping their children attached to them, while providing them with enough independence and freedom of decision-making. What parents need to keep in mind is that the decisions they make about their newborns will have significant effects on their social functioning when they get older. Parents must maintain a distance, while ensuring a high degree of comfort, safety and responsiveness to their child's needs. It is the best way to develop trust and rapport in their relationships, while teaching children to make quick decisions and resist stress..
